How to Help Reduce The Sting Out of Emotional Pain

gratitudeI watched the post Super Bowl 43 interviews of the Arizona Cardinals loss with great interest.  It was interesting to see how the players reacted to a very emotional loss.  I knew losing a big game like that was probably very heartbreaking and emotionally draining.  I wanted to see how they would react.  Would they be angry, upset, bitter, conciliatory or something else?

I’ve seen players and coaches interviewed in the past after games and I’ve witnessed some of them become angry and distraught.  I’ve seen them go into a tirade.  Studies have shown this attitude can be very unhealthy on the mind and body.

However, as I watched some of the Cardinal players, in particular Kurt Warner, being interviewed I saw nothing but a class act. Even in the last minute heartbreaking defeat, he was in control of his emotions and didn’t allow them to take control of him.

Warner had a great perspective and smile on his face as he talked genuinely about the loss.  What do you think the key to his demeanor is?  I believe it’s his gracious attitude of life.  Gratitude is the secret to reducing and even eliminating any emotional pain.

Try it the next time you feel angry, resentful, bitter or sad.  Make a list of the things you are grateful for.  It doesn’t matter how big or small they are, just do it and see the difference you feel.

The link below is the Kurt Warner interview and after watching it you can go to the one below and watch the opposite end of the spectrum.
