The benefits of meditation are tangible and well-documented. Psychology Today published a study by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., who studies the brain waves of stressed-out employees in a high-tech firm. The 25 people in the study who learned meditation lessons demonstrated a shift of brain waves in the frontal lobe. Brain waves in the stress-prone right frontal cortex moved to the calmer left frontal cortex. This shift reduces the negative effects of stress, mild depression, fear and anxiety. Subjects became calmer and happier than before they began meditating, and produced marked differences compared to the control group.
